Anytime I ask for a recommendation on the BEST brunch place in Montreal, the answer is unanimously Restaurant L’Avenue. Friends and critics agree that there is no other place like it, and that it has the most kickass eggs benedict in the city! This past weekend I got the opportunity to see what all the hype is about, and tagging along with me, my very own eggs benny connoisseur – Benny and Chris!

One night, Chris, Robin and I wandered out of the Drake Hotel at midnight and we stumbled across Midpoint. While we went in for a pint, we ended up with something entirely better. We met Tocino Boys‘ John DeBlois who had a special treat for us. How about a little Filipino breakfast?
Our next DIY Thursday was dubbed “A Celebration of Cheese and Carbs” and it challenged us to come up with unique grill cheese sandwich. We had to consider the bread, the cheese and even the extras. So how did we do? WATCH OUT Cheese Porn below!

Over the weekend the Philippines experienced the largest tropical cyclone to ever hit land fall in recorded history. The news and my Facebook feed has been filled with devastating images of mass destruction, pleas for help, and grief. I am lucky that most of my family back home live far enough away from it’s deadly path.
The out pouring of support has been phenomenal but you can always do more. The Canadian government will be matching charitable donations made by individual Canadians to any registered Canadian charities. CTV has a list of charities here.
I think most would agree that any Filipino you meet whether it be in the Philippines or living abroad (we are everywhere!) that they are the most kind-hearted and generous people that you will meet. I hope that you will consider helping the relief efforts if you can in any way you can.
If you’re from outside of Canada, you can still help. CNN has done a great summary of relief efforts on their page here.

I walked into this cafe in Montreal for a quick cup a joe, something that would tide me over along my walk on Ave Mont-Royal. Instead I got a cozy little internet cafe with excellent coffee.

I was very lucky to spend this weekend in Montreal with Chris for their Taste Montreal event. Similar to Toronto’s Winterlicious, it offers a line up of prix fixe menus from some of Montreal’s top restaurants over 2 weeks. We had late reservations at Restaurant Le Local in Old Montreal. Even at 10:30 PM all of their tables were filled and the vibe at times was both upbeat and intimate.

When our bestie Brittini came up to Toronto last weekend my friends Chelsea, Rachel and I knew we had to take her somewhere special. Chelsea suggested Le Sélect, a French Bistro on Wellington Ave W and a pleasant surprise from it’s mostly industrial neighbours.

Kate was our chosen host for October’s RDN and I was excited to see where she would take us next. Having been one of the original 4 people at the very FIRST Random Dinner Night back in 2006, Kate has impressed with her restaurant choices time and time again… so where the heck would she take us next?
Ever wanted to spend a night at the museum? While it isn’t quite as fantastical as the movie, the Royal Ontario Museum’s Friday Night Live gives Torontonians a chance to party with the dinosaurs and any of the museum’s other inhabitants.
