When Jackie let us know about a 5k run in wine country that ends with a glass of wine, I immediately said Sign Me Up!! The Beamsville Bench 5k, part of the Niagara running series, is a scenic run through wine country starting and ending at the Mike Weir Vineyard.
I had a great time on the run with friends Jackie, Monnie, Adriane, Melissa, and new friends Julia and Isaac!
Mike Weir Winery provided us with a lovely glass of their Sauvignon Blanc to celebrate a run well done. It was refreshing and just what we needed to cap off our race!
Melissa was kind enough to do a wine review for us between sips! Thanks, Melissa!
After our celebratory glass of wine, we were lucky to have more than just wine to keep us company. The Food Truck Eats festival was in town and, huzzah, they were conveniently parked at the Mike Weir Vineyard! 5K Run + Wine + Food Trucks = A day that was made for us!
We had a hard time choosing but we picked out some of our favourite food trucks! And best of all, we were there early which meant no long line ups at each truck! Win!
Dirty South Truck
We’ve waxed poetically about our love for this food truck before. At the Awestruck Festival we tried their Dirty Southern Love Chicken and Waffle sandwich. If you missed that make sure to check out our post and be prepared to get hungry!
This time around we had tacos on the brain and went for their pulled pork tacos and had no regrets!
Next up, El Gastrónomo Vagabundo!
El Gastro for short, they not only provided 100 watt smiles at the window, they also served us my favourite fish taco to date!
With a little bit of hot habanero hot sauce and cool coconut sour cream this taco has it all going on! But the secret weapon that had me going gag for this taco – the smoked pineapple! So good!
It was a scorcher so Tide & Vine‘s watermelon gazpacho was very much appreciated! Topped with wild Canadian shrimp, sheep feta and dill this was a lovely dish to cool us down on this hot day.
And of course, we couldn’t leave this food truck without trying their oysters. They had French Kisses from New Brunswick and Malpeques from Prince Edward Island.
And continuing on with our cool theme we hit up Dolcella Gelato!
And we were happy to learn that they had added a special flavour – cabernet-merlot gelato using Mike Weir’s wine!
I paired it with Chocolate gelato and it was the perfect treat for a hot day. Here’s a quick video (please don’t mind my messy hair!)
Jackie took it up a notch by having a chocolate cookie ice cream sandwich with avocado ice cream!
We kept up the sweet kick, with Curbside Bliss. They’re known for their cupcakes but we snagged one of their Ferrero Rocher donuts. I totally went Homer Simpson on this bad boy:
Lastly, Melissa finished her food truck festival with a treat from Itty Bitty Pie Company
She had their Pie In a Cup in the apple crumble flavour.
Wow what a fabulous day in Beamsville! So glad to spend it with some great running and foodie friends!
