Thank you so much to KT and Clint for spending this extra long weekend with me! It was jammed packed with lots of fun activities and yes, lots of eating of course (but we’ll save the eating for a separate post!)
What We Did For Canada Day 2014
Warning: Contains lots of Canadiana!
Our weekend started off with volunteering at Ottawa’s Rope for Hope challenge. It was scorching hot but that didn’t prevent the rappelers from giving it their all to support Make A Wish!
So glad that both KT and I got a chance to rappel again! Special thanks to Dan Benoit (@danbeaner) for getting some pretty amazing shots during the Rope for Hope event!
It really feels like Dan was hanging off the edge himself to get some of these shots! Check out the Make A Wish Eastern Ontario Facebook Page for more photos and Dan’s page for some of his other great photography!
Our Canada Day started off early with a hot and sweaty 5k! KT and I participated in the Commonwealth Run/Walk.
Proceeds from this event go towards sport and education activities promoting Commonwealth values to youth in Canada and abroad! Congratulations to KT on her first ever 5k! And yes those are awesome vintage Canadian wrist bands from the 70s!
Awarded a medal at the finish line complete with a picture with Olympian and gold medalist Glenroy Gilbert!
Our day continued with us wading through seas of red and white, and catching the Snowbirds air show while they flew over Parliament (sadly too fast for us to take a picture!)
We even a took a lazy stroll over on the Gatineau side to view a pretty awesome sand castle that somehow withstood the torrential downpour!
Speaking of torrential downpour, it was pretty touch and go most of the day, with tornado warnings (for reals), lots of heavy rain and even a big part of the Byward market losing power. We were afraid that we wouldn’t be able to repeat our favourite event from last year – the Fireworks Cruise with Capitol Cruises. But as luck would have it…
…the boat set sail and we enjoyed some lovely live music, good drinks and even a beautiful cotton candy sunset. Really there’s nothing better than a nice cruise around the river with good drinks and good friends.
We were happy to get on the boat but down to the wire we weren’t sure if fireworks were going to happen! Right before the first scheduled firework was lit, Mother Nature decided we need another good heavy shower. But as they say, the show must go on! We can’t have Canada Day in the capital without epic fireworks! Even if it means watching some spectacular fire works under an umbrella.
All in all a memorable Canada Day with lovely friends! Ottawa, you out did yourself again! Special thanks to Dan Benoit for the Rope for Hope pictures and KT and Clint for joining me again on my Canada Day adventure in Ottawa!
Hope you had a safe and lovely Canada Day! Cheers!
