This year I had the chance to visit Niagara region wine country twice in the company of wonderful running enthusiasts and friends. On our last trip we visit winery Foreign Affair and had our minds BLOWN out of the water when we tried their 2007 Cabernet Franc Ti Amo. This one definitely warranted a Wednesday Wine review for sure!
There was a little hiatus on the blog while @lifewithcocoa and I prepared, travelled and then RECOVERED from our epic adventures in Paris and Zurich!
If you haven’t started following me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, do it now! Our official travel monkey mascots Darcy and Liam took over our social pages to bring snap shots of our monkey business during our journey!
I wanted to highlight one of our favourite parts of our trip: THE WINE. In France it was everywhere! And we had a wonderful time drinking and enjoying it!
Last week I reviewed an ice wine near and dear to my heart as it was one I discovered on my very first wine trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake!
How could we leave wonderful Beamsville without stopping in at some marvelous vineyards? I had no idea we had so many just outside of Niagara on the Lake. We had exceptional wine and took a lot of pictures! Here is a quick and dirty recap of our wonderful time!
Believe it or not, a 5k run ending in a glass of wine and a food truck festival wasn’t the only thing that we were up to during our Beamsville weekend in July!
We stayed at the lovely Crownridge B&B with the even lovelier Michelle! It’s a gorgeous bed and breakfast with very spacious rooms and lovely views off of the upstairs patio! We even started our stay with an impromptu wine review from Jackie!
We had a fabulous Wednesday last week reviewing 2 wines while we were out and about. The first was a wine we tried on Election night in Ontario. While the Liberal Party was claiming victory, this wine had us in for an unpleasant surprise.
The next wine faired better! This we reviewed on location during a wet Tuesday (boozy Tuesday, anyone?) at the Stop Community Food Centre’s Night Market. We reviewed our favourite eats on an earlier blog post but here we wanted to let you in on the Norman Hardie vineyard and their awesome wine!
And last but not least, here’s Lawrence in Vancouver! He reviewed a full bodied Californian Cabernet from Layer Cake:
There you have it! If you’re interested to see what we have in store this week… make sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page! For our full collection of reviews – visit the playlist below:
Hoping your glasses are full tonight! Cheers, Salut, and Have a Wonderful Wednesday!
We started a new project called “Wednesday Wine” which you may have missed if you haven’t been on our Youtube and Facebook pages lately! We’ve been posting videos of ourselves drinking wine and sharing our thoughts because wine should be enjoyed by anyone! You don’t have to have a certificate to appreciate a good glass of wine and share what you like, don’t like about a bottle with your friends.
We don’t do a points system or a thumb rating. Instead we rate by days of the week when you might enjoy the wine we’re reviewing! It doesn’t mean that Sunday is the best but it does mean the Monday is the worst! Here’s our quick run down of what the days of the week mean to us:
Is it morning? Is it night time? Does it matter? Are you drinking wine out of a Tetrapack? Yeah … that kind of wine lives on this day.
Is it too early in the week to be drinking? Introducing the Business Lunch – It’ll probably be mild, very forgettable and near enough to water but it’s still wine. HUZZAH!
Wednesday night is like the peak of a mountain top… it gives you both perspectives – the crap you had Monday and Tuesday contrasted with the awesome sauce possibilities of the weekend (and yes Thursday is totes the weekend). So what wine lives on this day? Why something you open if you get a surprise visit – nothing special but still good. Or a guilty pleasure wine just for you.
If you often chug this wine, this is probably the day you’re chugging it. You may be trying to leave behind your college days, but the dirty, unashamed, “let’s get sh*tfaced” party-hard memories of your youth are still with you – in your wine.
For some it’s a cozy night to stay in, watch Netflix, make a home cooked meal. For other’s its the night to invite people over for cheese and conversation or head out a lounge.
The climax of the weekend. Get ready for a fun night. Maybe a little pre-drinking, maybe a little dancing, maybe a little more than that 😉 It’s the Whoo Girl of wine and it’s ready for a party!
Two types.. you’re either drinking it in a fruit juice hangover cure combo (mimosas, sangrias) OR it’s time relax, maybe have people over, celebrate the end of the week and prepare yourself for the boxed wine of Monday. Oh monday….
We have friends from Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver and San Francisco uploading videos and sometimes we even do Google Hangouts! Here’s a playlist of all of our wine reviews so far!
We end up at some of our FAVOURITE brunch places through recommendations and this one came from @PRCommLady through our friend @KTw1tty. This is the first off of her list of top brunch places, and if any of the others are like this, well let’s just say we’re going to be in brunching heaven for the next couple of weeks.
After Brunch 2012: Grape Escape Wine Tours
So now that you’re in Niagara On The Lake … what to do after having the most amazing homemade eggs ever? As they say … When in Wine Country, Drink wine!
You probably already know that Niagara-on-the-Lake is home to many, many wineries. But the question isn’t should you go but how should you go!
We decided that if we were going to indulge in a full day of wine tastings we should try to absolve all our sins with some physical exercise. We signed up to do a bike and wine tasting tour with Grape Escape Wine Tours. We loved it. There’s something to be said for biking through wine country; wind on your face. The weather was a little wet but it was perfect.
