So we’re three quarters of the way through the year and some of you may be thinking back to my 50 km goal of races for 2013. So… where am I at? Here’s a tally of the races I have completed so far:
My racing year got off to a good start with the Sporting Life 10k. It’s a 10 km that is mostly down hill starting just north of Yonge and Eglington and finishing in the Fort York area. A lot of fun and just a great vibe the whole way through!
I mentioned this race briefly in my Canada Day post. I can’t say enough about how much fun this race was. I’ll be sure to do it again next year! Ottawa get ready for me!
No, my fellow Canadians, that’s not a spelling mistake! Color Me Rad was an amazing 5k event. Laid back and less about the finishing and more about the fun! How could you not have fun when you’re 10 different colours by the end of it? And what’s that? A rainbow dance party at the end? Hells Ya! Here’s a video of my experience during this run:
Pretty cool right?
After our efforts, the best of the best Squiggy suggested we grab a bite to eat at the nearby Downsview Market. They have a great International cafeteria with lots of options including Caribbean, Filipino, Italian, Lebanese and amazing smoothies from the Juicy Hut!
Best of all? The great selection at the Downsview Market’s Farmers Market. The peaches were just right, the cantaloupe was ripe and sweet and we found some amazing mennonite smoked sausage with pepper corn.
So 25 km of 50 km complete! What’s next?
Tomorrow I’ll be running in the Electro Dash 5K. A night time race with lots of glow in the dark and a DJ dance party at the finish line (these dance parties at the end are really the reason why I sign up for some of these races!)
Saturday I’ll be signing up and running in Cabbagetown’s Blair’s Run. A big part of the Cabbagetown Festival, this 3K mini marathon has been supporting the Cabbagetown Youth Centre over the last 40 years. #loveyourcommunity
So what do you think? Are you participating in any races this year? If you don’t like running you might consider running like me. Yes, the goal is to finish but really it’s to get to the brunch that takes place after! It helps if you’ve got a good running buddy like Benny:
Wish me luck on my races and Happy Brunching!!
