Just across from the historic Keg Mansion, the building that houses Ganzi has a history of it’s own – built in 1890 by famed architect George Horace Gooderham and a frequent hideout by mobster Al Capone.
Ganzi’s brunch menu is varied and plays to it’s strengths. It has a few brunch standards like eggs benedict, steak and eggs and smoked salmon hash while the rest of the menu is dedicated to PIZZA.
Pizza for breakfast? How could we resist! I don’t know what we were thinking but apparently we were thinking like Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles and ordered 1 pizza each!
Their is pizza closer to thin crust so if you’re looking for a chewy, doughy pizza, you’re not gonna get it here. What happens instead is a very topping centric slice with a nice crunch on the crust.
Best Pizza Standard: When Pizza Margherita is done right, it’s absolutely heaven! Ganzi does a great job here with their pizza and they have a great flavour to their tomato sauce.
Our Favourite: Tropea – Burrata and Asiago Cheese with mushrooms and, my favourite, caramelized onions. I’m sorry, caramelized onions make the world a better place, add asiago and burrata cheese and SIGN ME UP! Really great, almost juicy flavour.
Needs some work: Bosco – While the Tropea was brimming with flavour, the Bosco by comparison was very bland. It felt like it needed either more cheese or more sauce.
With our pizzas for appetizers, Chef Friday brought out his speciality: French Toast and Fried Chicken.
This was hands down the BEST French Toast I have ever had. FORGET Waffles – blasphemy, I know! Chef Friday presses the focaccia and some how it absorbs all of the sweet syrupy flavours. With the contrast of perfectly crispy and delicious southern fried chicken this dish can do no wrong! I will definitely be back for it.
And to finish our epic italian meal? How about italian donuts?
Zeppole – italian style donuts covered in sugar and filled with fresh fruit. Very sugary and unlike any donuts we had tried before.
Thanks again to Chef Friday for serving up a lovely brunch! We had a great time eating delicious food and learning about Ganzi’s colourful history!
Can’t wait to come back soon! ‘Til next Brunch!
