We attended several comedy shows for the Just For Laughs Festival in Toronto – JFL42. A few food trucks partnered with the festival to offer fresh food while people were waiting for their show to start outside of the Sony Centre. What was most surprising was the discovery of this amazing food truck:
Chimney Stax makes – Kürtőskalács or Festival Cakes. Spiral pasteries made of yeasty dough giving it a donut-y texture. I like to call them spiral donuts.
We were really excited to find these in Toronto as the last time we had them we were in Europe traipsing around Budapest.
Cafe Molnar is the most popular place in Budapest to get these treats and we were happy that one of our tours stopped into this shop.
Just like their donut cousins, they’re only really good for a day or so. Sadly, by the time we were back in the cold streets of Toronto any that we had tried to bring back were stale. There was a moment of silence and some crying when we discovered this.
Chimney Stax founder discovered these on a trip in Austria and not only brought it to Canada, made sure it was mobile!
And how did they compare? Just as good! Their version is a little crispier on the outside and you can coat them in icing sugar, cinnamon sugar, cocoa and sprinkles.
Thank you, Chimney Stax for taking me back to Budapest with this spiral donut. Now… any chance you could work on one with real chocolate sprinkles? Pretty please?
