Bed and Brunching in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Brunch 2012: Globetrotters Bed and Breakfast

Sometimes my brunch adventures take me outside of Toronto and this weekend both the bf and I hurried over to Niagara-on-the-Lake for some much needed R&R. Having never stayed at a bed and breakfast we were curious to see what Globetrotters would offer.

We met Fernando and Donna, our hosts, who were so accommodating about our ever changing ETA. They showed us a map of the town, circling the places we had reserved to dine out as well as the cheese shop, chocolate shop and some of their other favourite spots. This map was well used on our many ventures into town.

Prior to going up, Fernando let us know he served breakfast around 9:00 AM and asked about any allergies. In my head, even after reading all the rave reviews about “Fernando’s Eggs”, I thought I was in for the usual continental breakfast that we get free with hotel stays – scrambled eggs, a cereal bar and muffins that were probably made a few days ago… boy, was I wrong!

Good Morning, NOTL:

The following morning we were greeted with this Eggs Benny creation by Fernando. This take on eggs benedict had homemade flaky pastry with strips of warm Montreal smoked meat. Finished off with a perfectly poached egg drenched in hollandaise sauce it was a lovely surprise.

He also artfully sliced some melon and berries and made sure we both had lots of coffee, tea and fresh bread. Really we couldn’t have asked for a better beginning to what would be a pretty exhausting day.

Our last morning with them, he wowed us again with an Eggs Souffle. Seriously. An Eggs Souffle!

It was a delicious egg souffle that had a quiche-y consistency without the pie crust. The best part was the layer of cheese: partly crusted on top and melty goodness down below, it provided a nice texture and flavour contrast to the soft and light eggs.

If all B&B experiences are like this then I don’t know how I missed the boat on staying at one before.  There are lots of B&B options in Niagara-on-the-Lake but this one definitely blew me away. They are such lovely people!

If you’re considering a weekend getaway and an artful breakfast in Niagara-on-the-Lake definitely look for Globetrotters B&B. You can find their website here and Donna’s blog about what’s on in Niagara here.

More to come from our awesome time in Niagara…
