April was an exciting time for Benny. His first airplane ride took him to San Francisco which is not only home to many hills (they can be unforgiving) but also America’s culinary mecca. I’ve been a few times before and I have to say, just like Toronto, San Fran has the ability to wow you every time. There is always somewhere new you’ve never tried!

Thanks to Isabelle we made sure to try a few great spots while we were in the city. She is the best ever travelling foodie having found the best food all over the world. Her amazing foodie experiences include South Africa and now her new home in San Fran. She knows where to go but sometimes has a little trouble with timing:

So where did we go? Our first brunch stop was Cedar Hill Kitchen and Smokehouse. Isabelle grabbed a group deal and we were treated to awesome food and bottomless (say what!?) mimosas:

We decided to choose two meals and share. Here’s the Sweet Tea Fried Chicken Sandwich with a side of charred collard greens:

Next we had the Austin-style Breakfast Tacos which were pretty amazing. We went with pork but you could also get them with brisket:

And in what my mom calls “Takaw Mata” we peeked over at another table and guessed at a side they were having that we were (er… Caryl was) dying to try. We guessed it was the mac + cheese. It wasn’t the mac + cheese but this was really good too:

After some shopping we hit up YakiniQ Cafe in Japantown for their specialty: Sweet Potato Lattes:

Benny meanwhile found his new favourite jam:

Not bad for a first day in San Fran! More to come soon! Thanks again to Isabelle for an awesome time!

‘Til next brunch…
