Last week I had the pleasure of attending the finals for Toronto Hottest Chef. An online voting contest narrowed down our top 9 finalists which led to an epic canapé battle in the Great Hall. Our very own Squiggy was a top 9 finalist out of 24!
Team Squiggy was in full force cheering him on (although he was doing a really good job of doing it on his own)! It was great to taste all of the finalist meals and vote for who we thought was hot and talented!
His canapé for the evening: Surf and Turf Beef Tartare – smoked oyster and beef tartare with apple pearls, crispy shallot and mustard cress served on a half shell. A few of us were lucky enough to have a preview of this a few nights before at his pop up Squiggfeast.
While Squiggy did not take home the title, he remains #1 in our hearts! Recapping the whole experience, Squiggy summed it up perfectly: “This provided me with a stage to be the loudest, most charismatic Squigg there is and it felt great. Now I can’t be that all the time, but letting the beast out every so often feels gooooood.”
Congrats to the winner Leah Wildman and to all of the other finalists and contestants! I can’t wait to try all of your food in the near future!
