I was very lucky to spend this weekend in Montreal with Chris for their Taste Montreal event. Similar to Toronto’s Winterlicious, it offers a line up of prix fixe menus from some of Montreal’s top restaurants over 2 weeks. We had late reservations at Restaurant Le Local in Old Montreal. Even at 10:30 PM all of their tables were filled and the vibe at times was both upbeat and intimate.
While the prix fixe menu looked VERY tempting, we ended up ordering off of their regular dinner menu. We were glad we did because we would have missed out on this beautiful soup:
A sweet onion cream soup arrived at our table and it was just what we needed on this cool night. There’s a surprise submerged piece of toast inside the soup soaking up all the goodness. I love how the sweetness of the onions infused this dish perfectly spoonful after spoonful. It is now my life’s mission to figure out how to make this soup.
To go with our soup we tried their crab cake appetizer. It’s the first time I’ve had such a Mediterranean take on a crab cake and the greek elements of olives, hummus and cucumbers meshed well with the warm crab cake. It was delicious and refreshing.
Lastly, we order the rib eye steak for two. Oven baked it came out family style at our table. Hiding under the generous portions of meat were a gnocchi, mushroom and carrot medley.
Wow. Way to impress Montreal! Thanks for an awesome dinner!
